Girard Sanchez, LMSW
Lead Case Manager: Transitional Housing
Girard is currently the Lead Case Manager for the Transitional Housing Program. He comes to us with over 12 years in social work, where he helped those affected by domestic violence, substance use disorders, and Veterans and their families exiting homelessness.
A retired Army Veteran with over 20 years on active duty, Girard served in multiple leadership roles, including with the 10th Special Forces Group, 1st Special Forces, 1st Calvary Division, and 2th Infantry Division. Girard knows what struggles affect Veterans, their families, and the difficulties of finding the right help for the right problem. Girard is trained in multiple treatment methods, and also runs our counseling program and support groups helping Veterans recover from trauma and substance use disorders.
Girard is one of the VIC ASIST trainers helping educate our teams on how to deal with crisis, trauma and de-escalation techniques used daily in helping our Veteran families. He holds certifications as a Batterer Intervention Prevention Program (BIPP) Senior Facilitator, and is certified in the DUULTH model for domestic violence. Girard is a member of the Bernalillo County Addiction Treatment Advisory Board (ATAB), and the City of Albuquerque Mental Health Response Advisory Committee (MHRAC), where he works to ensure the Veteran voice is heard when planning for providing assistance in the community.
